Since the crossover of arts and fashion in 2011, and crossover of indigenous craftsmanship and fashion in 2022, the opening show of AW23 Taipei Fashion Week is again about the crossover between fashion and traditional crafts. Many craftsmen and performing arts preservers are invited to collaborate with the contemporary fashion designers to develop a unique and brilliant fashion collection.
The traditional spirit of Eight Generals transforms into futuristic garments. Through the stage costume which is the expertise of the designer, the breathtaking power of the new generation is manifested by the interpretation of the avant-garde futurism.
The inspirational elements of the collection are the 80-year-old script, characters, carving techniques, colors and performances. Puppet shows have a whole new interpretation because of the contemporary fashion design.
The design inspiration of the collection stems from the core spirit of Taiwanese opera. All the unique elements of Taiwanese opera, such as tonality, costumes, colors and patterns, blend in fashion design, and create garments with a specific culture characteristic.
The collection is a combination of temple painting and high school students’ favorite manga element. The result is a collection with a quirky and fun street punk style and folk culture. It is a manifestation of the coexistence of sport fashion and temple art as well.
The collection utilizes the materials of sustainable round braided ropes and cotton ropes made from recycled PET bottles. Meanwhile, it blends in the craft of traditional and creative knotting. A knot symbolizes a point, and a rope is a symbol of a line, and by manifesting this concept through fashion design to pay a tribute to the craft of traditional and creative knotting.
This collection is a joint creation of the crossover of paper sculptures and fashion design. It delivers a new transformation of materials and tools, which are papers, hobby knives, fabrics and scissors. It provides a whole new interpretation of “dragon”, which is a characteristic icon of folk culture by imitating the image of the dragon.
Chun-Yuan Jean delivers a derivative work through the works of Wang Ching-Shuang, the lacquer artist, and the spirit of resilience. The blueprints outline the silhouettes of garments, and manifest the process of the learning and cultivation of lacquer art.
